Speed Training for Soccer - August 05, 2004
Speed Training has become a major industry. Soccer players need to be supremely fit. The purpose of soccer speed training is to train players to become faster, react better, jump higher etc. The key to speed training is to be able to perform skills with a ball at greater game speed. Reaction times are decreased, greater agility, increased stamina and endurance are all benefits of a speed training program. Players are able to perform better, recover faster from injury etc. Economical training is combining fitness with technical skills in a high intensity way. Our own Phil Rose has been certified as a CSCS instructor. Phil described what he was doing to apply his training. I am currently completing a Speed, Agility and Quickness ( SAQ ) Certification course offered by Internationally known Fitness and Health Education Company, National Endurance Sports Training Association (NESTA). The certification will allow me to put C.S.C.S on my resume, Certified Soccer Conditioning Specialist. I will then design SAQ programs for soccer players of all ages, particularly those in High School and looking to get to the next level. I have designed such programs for US Paralympic Mens Soccer team 1995-2001, in particular, in preparation for tournament play @ World Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and World Paralympic Soccer Championships in Rio, Brazil in 1998.

If you are a forward we can work on your shooting, positioning, heading whatever you need to work on, a Keeper having a problem with low balls, high balls, distribution - now we can help. It doesn't stop with individual training, there is also group training and team training. John Germanos explained "It may be the heart of your team let's say for argument you play a 3-4-3 and you want your three defenders to have a better awareness of each other. ISC will work with the three of them as a group, usually we find that when a core of players have been to some of our sessions the rest of the team see a noticeable improvement and they want in on it. Next thing we know the whole team is having sessions with us.There is no doubt that it is great for ISC but more importantly it's great for the kid's themselves". Currituck Camp was Cooking! - July 30, 2002
International Director of Coaching Steve O'Neil was amazed at the turn out and the committment from the Currituck soccer community. "It was supposed to be a small camp, but we kept getting walk-ons every day, we ended up with almost twice as many campers as we thought. The local club Currituck Soccer hosted the event and looked after us from day one like you would not believe. My sincere thanks to Erica Lane for her help in getting this event off the ground. The amazing thing was the heat, I am getting used to the temperatures here but the humidity was horrendous, in England we have a word for 100% humidity it's called RAIN!" Jens Redlich of the German Bundesliga was as always a huge hit with the campers, who said the Germans don't have a sense of humour? Local boy Stu Horne College Coach at nearby Chowan College also enjoyed the camp " The kids were insatiable, they just wanted to learn, they were like little sponges!" England International Georgina Adams was such a hit that on the last day of camp, more than half of the kids and parents travelled to Virginia to watch her play for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in a W-League Divisional game, they were not disappointed as Georgie let fly with two goals in a fifteen minute spell. When asked if the Coaches enjoyed their time in Currituck they all looked at Jens and in their best Schwarzenegger voices "We will be back!!"
